Facts at a Glance



- 2100 km of roads suffered heavy damage.

- 36 bridges were rendered unusable

- Total damage to agricultural infrastructure exceeds $56.2 million

- Amount of food necessary for the next six months for portion of population most seriously affected by the hurricane: 27,216 quintals each of rice, corn, and beans; 22,680 quintals of sugar; 3400 quintals of salt; 700,000 lbs. of powdered milk.

- To meet next year’s harvest goals will require 31,800 quintals of bean seeds and 8,640 quintals of corn seeds.

- The estimated cost of rebuilding 10 peasants stores in Regions V and VI is $986,000

- The estimated cost of rebuilding 35 completely or partially demolished warehouses in Regions IV, V, VI and Special zone II $2,239,344. The warehouses range in capacities from 3000 to 10,000 quintals.

- 8 major coffee processing facilities

- The electric company INE estimated electrical damages in Managua alone at $2 million.
